Recast (a photography collaboration zine)
This is a photography project I thought of a few days ago and would really like to go into affect. Please read this! This zine will not work without you! What it's about:
This zine is to be a collection of photographs from all kinds of people. However, it's theme is to recreate an old photograph. It can be an old family photograph, or possibly one from hulton archives if I can get the rights (I e-mailed them about this yesterday & have yet to get a response). It can either be recreated to a t, or just a more mordern representation of it with the poses or theme/mood still attached. What I need from you:
Pictures! At this stage, I would like to collect any photographs I can obtain the rights to for this zine. If you have any family photos that I could use for this project, this would be great. Either scan them at a high resolution (300 dpi or more) & e-mail them to me at email@example.com or you can snail mail them to be at my address & I can scan them & mail them back to you. The first thing I would like to do is get as many photographs as I can into a collective, and then they are available for photgraphers to chose from if they do not have photographs of their own to copy. They can be however old, just nothing post 1980 if possible. These photos would generally have to be with a person or people in it, as well. If a contributor has a photo or photos of their own they would like to use and do not need the collection to chose from, that is fine, just e-mail me the photo(s) so I have them for the zine. Also, please keep in mind that I will probably be ordering hard copies of the photos sent to me. I will give you credit where credit is due, naturally.
Later on, the photographers would have the photo(s) they would recreate. One person can recreate more than one photo, but no more than three. I have no idea how big the zine will be yet, so the exact size is not known for sure, obviously. But if I get a lot of interest I may have to turn away some people. PLEASE HELP ME PROMOTE THIS PROJECT IN YOUR OWN JOURNALS ESPECIALLY TO PHOTOGRAPHER FRIENDS YOU KNOW. THIS ZINE CAN NOT SURVIVE WITHOUT PLENTY OF CONTRIBUTORS.
This entry/call for assistance is cross-posted.
Thank you very much in advance!

Hi there. I was being bored and putting off my homework and I stumbled upon this group! To my pleasure b/c it sounds totally fun! I'd love to join in! What girl doesnt want to get dolled up in vintage wardrobe and pose for pics? Just take some pics, or is it just one picture we have to choose? And then a paragraph or two about why our star is our favorite? Im so excited! I'll have to start searching for stuff to wear!

Here's an update for you lovely ladies/gentlemen:
So far, I've received one photo with the accompanying paragraph. I am still debating when the deadline should be - I think I said I'd like to have them finished by Christmas, didn't I? Well, you still have plenty of time.
I'd also like to welcome all the new members. If you are interested in participating, or you have any questions, let me know and I will help you out.
I posted this in my own journal, but for those of you not on my friends list, keep an eye out for these silent superstars on Turner Classic Movies:
- This Tuesday, September 16th, TCM will air a HAROLD LLOYD marathon from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Keep an eye out for Safety Last! at 8 a.m. It's my favorite, and if you haven't seen it, you really should.
- Monday, September 22nd, watch CHARLIE CHAPLIN in The Circus at 12 a.m.
- Monday, September 29th, beginning at 12:15 a.m., watch five hours of BUSTER KEATON films. Silents and talkies alike are featured in this mini-marathon.
Another movie to check out this month is A Streetcar Named Desire, starring VIVIEN LEIGH and MARLON BRANDO. It will air at 10 p.m. Sunday, September 28th.
A complete schedule for this month and most of October is available here.
If you don't have TCM and you would like any of these movies on tape, let me know and I will do my best to record them for you.
If anyone has any tips on where to find vintage clothes for the photos, or hair or makeup tips, don't hesitate to post them here. I'm sure they'll be appreciated.
ALSO, if you need to contact me for any reason, IM me on AOL Instant Messenger at the screen name sodapop penny; on MSN, firstname.lastname@example.org; and on Yahoo! Messenger, email@example.com.
Can't wait to see your photos! <3

Allo, darlings! Tomorrow night my sister and I plan on taking the photographs for this lovely fanzine. I've decided to go as Clara Bow. The only problem is the fact that my eyebrows do not resemble Miss Bow's at all. I've heard that if you cover your eyebrows with sealing wax, eyebrow sealant and concealer, it's pretty easy to draw on the shape you want. Has anyone ever tried this before? And if so, do you have any tips?
Thanks in advance! Current Mood: curious

I was very happy to wake up this morning to ten e-mails in my inbox
, all of them from people interested in submitting photos for the project. Additionally, one person has already sent me her photo, and it is amazing. Please, please, keep them coming.
I have been wracking my brains for two days, trying to think of a title for this zine. If the response is large enough that I have to expand the zine into several zines, I will need even more titles (one for each decade/era profiled in each zine). Does anyone have any suggestions?
Also, several people have asked about a deadline. And currently, there is no deadline. I am waiting to see how many people respond to my various posts around LiveJournal and other Internet forums and message boards (which reminds me, if any of you are members of any relevant Internet clubs, etc., how about passing this project onto them? It would be appreciated). In a week or two, I should be able to give you a deadline. I hope to have these sent out by Christmas, since they would make nice gifts no matter what denomination one is, so the deadline will probably be sometime at the end of October. That gives everyone plenty of time, but please don't procrastinate!
I mentioned in the User Info area of this community that posting your fan photo here is not allowed, but I would like to post at least one, along with the required personal statement, just as an example of what we are looking for. If anyone would like to be the guinea pig for this, let me know.
Another concern I heard from some people was that they do not resemble their favorite Old Hollywood star. This is not a problem at all. You don't have to look the person you want to pose as; otherwise 99.9% of us would have to undergo major plastic surgery, I'm sure. This is something we want you to do just for the hell of it. Don't let your inhibitions about your appearance get in the way.
Feel free to post here with any comments or concerns, questions or suggestions.
